Saturday's Marching Orders

[Rally] Another peaceful demonstration takes place this Saturday, Nov. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the City & County Building, 451 S. State. Dubbed "Join the Impact Salt Lake City," the rally will feature keynote speaker former Marine and Iraq war veteran Jeff Key who was discharged from the military after coming out on CNN. Eric Ethington will also read his recently published letter "Dear Utah." Following the program, participants will march around Library Square and the City & County Building. More info on Facebook here.

A candlelight vigil will take place later on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the state Capitol where 10,000 candles will spell out "Equality" on the Capitol lawn. More info on the vigil can be found on Facebook here.

Utahns of all sexual orientations, gender identities and religious affiliations who oppose Proposition 8 are invited.

And should you need a reprieve from all the marching and candle-lighting, you can sit yourself down for CNN's Anderson Cooper who will speak on world events and the journalist's role in a presidential election Saturday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., at Rowland Hall-St. Marks, 720 Guardsman way. The event's open to the public at no charge as part of the McCarthey Family Lecture Series.

  1. And then ... the Mo-locaust. ;-)

  2. Its a shame there has to be protest to protect civil rights. Lets just ban mormons and mormon marriages.
Remember the ode of Brigham Young, his heart's desire: "slit their throats". That's the true heart of the mormon. For interesting reading, investigate the odd relationship the mormon church had with hitler and nazi germany. They are the modern day legislation, tomorrow Auschitz????????

  3. I'm from Salt Lake...I'd like the temple and church to go, to leave. It shames me. I saw a stop sign where someone painted below stop, the word, mormons. Yeah, right on.

  4. you've got to be warning your protesters that they are in harms way, this is the history of the mormons, from their historian:

"The Mountain Meadows Massacre stands without a parallel amongst the crimes that stain the pages of American history. It was a crime committed without cause or justification of any kind to relieve it of its fearful character... When nearly exhausted from fatigue and thirst, [the men of the caravan] were approached by white men, with a flag of truce, and induced to surrender their arms, under the most solemn promises of protection. They were then murdered in cold blood."

  5. CAN'T GET ENOUGH MMM !!!!!!!

    don't let it stop, please!

  6. Sooo-
California voters outlaw homosexual marriage and we march on Salt Lake City/County???
    That makes sense.
Why don't I just kick the sh!t out of my new puppy. Will that help?

  7. ban mormons, legislate mormon marriages, now.

If you can't BE HONEST about being queer, then don't say what those of us who are, should and shouldn't do concerning a state which is HOME to the very church who funded 4 of 5 dollars on prop 8.
SERIOUSLY Anderson, shut up, cuz we know ALL your secrets..... princess.

  9. Gosh, protest or move out of utah....I think I'll just move. less wear and tear.

(gosh, answer the door for a mormon missionary or take a d.. . hmmmm, no decision there!)
