Want Me Back?

  1. Great letter. Although, in my experience with "the church", gay or not, you're taught to hate yourself. There is no possible way to live up to the rediculous expectations this religion places on the individual. Were it not for guilt, fear and ignorance, this church would not exist. Then again, those great pillars seem to be the driving force behind most Christian religions.

As for your mother fearing that she'll not have you as part of her "eternal" family, simply remind her that she'll be able to leave her post within the celestial kingdom (I'm sure the other wives that your father collects - is commanded to collect - there will be able to fill in for her for a few eternal minutes) to visit the lesser beings (that'd be you, the gay one) within the lesser terrestial and telestial kingdoms. No problem - you'll get to keep your lover and your mother can visit at any time for tea.

Mormons cannot renounce racism. White man is of the "white and delightsome" variety of human, while all others, especially those "dirty black folk", are not so important. Not here and not hereafter. Why pretend?

Jo Smith did much of his mystical crappola with his face stuck in a hat staring at some mystical stone. The funny thing is, most Mormons don't know that. Furthermore, they don't want to. Jo Smith found himself in trouble with the law in New York for failing to find treasure in neighbors' yards with these same stones. He was paid by said neighbors to find this treasure after he told them that it was likely there, and yet, though he took their money, he failed to find it, everytime. Wierd, huh? In my experience, mormons know very little about their own religion. Knowledge doesn't fit well within the confines of "cattle mentality".

Oh hell. There's more, and more and more. But who gives a shit? Of my own accord, after a particularly boring sacrament service, I walked out of those ever-revolving chapel doors at age twelve, never to return. I've never looked back.

See you in outer darkness...........bring beer.

  2. I agree; great letter, great comments, but the fact is no religion has a monopoly on BS. Read the Old Testament -- that "god" is a psychopathic, cold-blooded fascist. Religion is the most serious threat to our future on this planet; even "peaceful" hindus and buddhists have been known to engage in religious slaughter.
Bottom line: what kind of "god" would endow humans with a sense of logic and reason and them demand they ignore it for "faith" or else face damnation of one kind or another.
god is not great, religion poisons everything

  3. B.H.

You're a Twain fan. Right? Twain had beautiful things to say about religion.

I saw this on a bumper sticker the other day and enjoyed it:

    "Without God, life is everything."

  4. Wow, fantastic letter. I couldn't have expressed my feeling any more succinctly than did Mr. Steve Ellingson.

Fine, LDS Church. We'll play your game. You want us back? We'll change - but you're going to have to make some major changes yourself.

  6. I don't have a problem with 'God' or a spirituality where God is a large part of the equation. The problem is "Religion" not "God". Religion uses God to create submission and obedience...always has and always will. The invitation is not to come and be loved, but to be under the inviter's thumb...best to always reject such an offer.
