This weekend, while you're loading up on Freedom Food at all those backyard BBQs, keep in mind America's struggles with obesity are far from over. Local documentary filmmaker Steven Greenstreet (This Divided State) is doing his part to keep the message alive with Killer at Large, a documentary exploring one of this century's most sobering issues. The film, which recently won the Silver Medal Best Documentary Award at the prestigious International Filmmaker Festival in the UK and Best Political Documentary prize at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, will be screened at the Tower Theatre on July 9 at 6:30 p.m. Stay after for an open panel discussion with Greenstreet, producers Bryan Young and Elias Pate, and executive producer Shawn Talbott. Proceeds benefit Wasatch Community Gardens.
Listen closely and you'll hear music by local artists including Mushman, The Wolfs, Jeremy Harmon and others. Greenstreet wanted to keep things local, a welcome emphasis that seems to be growing around these parts (check out the 337 documentary for additional local soundtrack action).
