God, Country & Super Dell

[DellWatch] Oh, joy! The SuperDellForGovernor.com blog is so full of great/crazy quotes, it's hard to believe it's for real. A sampling of the hits:

  • "If you don’t vote for SUPERDELL you WILL suffer the wrath of GOD and the consequences of your own ignorance and stupidity."
  • "Hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorism and other destruction will continue to escillate until America is humbled before God."
  • "The vast majority of media in Utah is controlled by satan. Their fraud and deception must be stopped!!!"
  • "There really isn't a choice for Governor in Utah for those that believe in God. ALL, 100%, every single Christian in Utah will vote for Dell Schanze as governor."
There's more--please keep 'em coming, SD! (Bill Frost)

  1. And yet he still has a better chance of winning than any candidate who came out and admitted that he or she did not believe in a god.

  2. SUPERDELL really is one of the best things about living in Salt Lake City.

Wouldn't it be totally awesome if Utah voters elected SUPERDELL? It would give him a platform to launch his nonsensical babblings to the national stage.

Even The New York Times would have to adopt the style of typesetting his name in all caps. On first reference, it would be "Gov. SUPERDELL, L-Utah." How totally awesome would that be?

OK, sure, we'd all be humiliated, but that's nothing new. Imagine what fun we'd have! And it would be great for tourism; people would flock from miles around to see what kind of state could possibly elect such a person.

Imagine what it would be like to have a governor who believes the newsmedia is controlled by the Dark Lord Satan: Every press conference would make national news! It could be the best thing for Utah since the 2002 Olympic Games.

  3. Really the only thing that makes him stand out as different in Utah is the 'L' behind his name instead of an 'R'. Come on, we have heard stuff almost this crazy for years in this state!

  5. "There is, in fact, no worldview more reprehensible in its arrogance than that of a religious believer: the creator of the universe takes an interest in me, approves of me, loves me, and will reward me after death; my current beliefs, drawn from scripture, will remain the best statement of the truth until the end of the world; everyone who disagrees with me will spend an eternity in hell...."
from "Letter to a Christian Nation", Sam Harris.

Until we remove the mythology of "god" from our politics entirely, we will always be at the whim of raving lunatics. And while it can be entertaining from a distance, it's horribly frightening in reality to think that people so deluded by a fairy tale are making decisions that effect all of us and the future of our planet.
