[Tribute] Folk singer and civil-rights activist Odetta Holmes died Tuesday.
I'm that Odetta's supple and disciplined contralto shall not be heard at President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration next month.
My sadness of her passing, though, is overshadowed by my gratitude for Odetta's luminous beauty, mindful compassion and heartfelt soulfulness--inspiring generations and leaving behind a legacy of hope and a model of liberation.
(Brandon Burt)
P.S. Odetta also leaves behind the best recording ever of "Muleskinner Blues" (which I couldn't find a link for). But I wish I knew what she had planned for her inauguration set list!
