How Did You Get This Number?!

[Techophobia] I just got a call from "Withheld" on my cell phone from a group hell-bent on defeating the "Alco-Pops" bill. I listened intently to his spiel about how "flavored malt beverages" are no different than beer and shouldn't be relegated to liquor stores. Fight the power, bro.

Than I asked, "How did you get this number? It's a cell phone." His answer: "I don't know, it's in the computer. Can I connect you directly to the Governor's office?" My reply: "No. Go suck a warm Bacardi Silver, jerkoff."

Anybody else had the telemarketer experience on your cell? Slippery slope ... (Bill Frost)

  1. Don't know that it counts as a telemarketer experience, but I got a new cell phone for Christmas, and around Sundance time I kept getting calls to report to the theaters for work. If I was scheduled to work Sundance, I don't remember it.

  2. I received two calls on my cell phone that I Googled back to Dan Jones & Associates ... the local telephone polling company.

If you Google my cell phone number, it doesn't come up.

I recall also getting an autodialed call to that number from Davis County Clerk Steve Rawlings about something, but I forget what.

There's probably a story here about the technology that needs to be told (or told again for those of us that missed it the first time around).

  4. simple. don't leave any of your phone numbers on anything like those win a free car, boat, gold's gym membership, etc boxes. those make it easy for the telemarketers as you've entered into a relationship with them. now they can call you! and don't put your number on your voter's registration. you get moronic calls about who you're going to vote for...i got dozens of those voicemail messages prior to the last election...AFTER i moved to another city outside of salt lake. talk about vast annoyance!!!
